Hosanna and Alleluia Choirs

We had a special treat yesterday, May 1st, at Hosanna and Alleluia choir! We started choirs together with Jim in the Sanctuary. Jim Hild, our Music Director, and organist directs many choirs here at church including Alleluia Choir. He showed us how the organ works and gave us a demonstration! We learned, different from the piano which has strings in it, the organ is filled with 2000 metal and wooden pipes to create its sound! Talk about "Make a Joyful Sound!"

I think we should call Jim the "Pied Piper"! He even took one of the pipes out of the organ and blew into it like a flute or recorder! Then we got to see the behind the scenes part of this large instrument.

We learned the organ has three keyboards; the Swell on top, then the Great keyboard right below it.
The third keyboard Jim plays with his feet. It is called the Pedal. He even has special shoes he wears to play the organ.

There were all kinds of switches and buttons. Some are called Stops, which actually "start a note or pipe to play.

The organ at All Saints was installed in 1997 which makes it 16 years old.

Then Jim played for us! It was wonderful!
If you would like to learn more about this amazing instrument, feel free to contact Jim at church. He would love to tell you all about it!
